We’re not from here, but after years of being “weekenders” the Easts and the Graham-Magees became permanent residents of Hartwell just a few years ago. The story of this B&B began with donkeys. Sitting on our adjacent docks on the shores of Lake Hartwell, we could hear donkeys braying. And that made us curious – we’re on a lake … where the heck are those donkeys? Catharine and Sharon went searching and found the donkeys and this beautiful 53-acre farm perched on the shores of Lake Hartwell. They were enchanted, and soon the rest of us were too. It seemed perfect for a B&B, and well … here we are. We are delighted to welcome you to The Beacon and hope you will love it as much as we do.

Inn on Main Street near Asheville, North Carolina, was a romantic B&B with stellar reviews for almost 20 years. Breakfast is no longer offered now, but three units surrounding the historic house have become luxury vacation rentals. Guests are only a short walk from Weaverville’s Allgood Coffee, restaurants, breweries and galleries, and a few minutes by car from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate.
Two of our rental units are neighboring but unconnected rooms in an annex to the historic home, each with a queen bed, gas fireplace, whirlpool tub, window AC and private entrance. Each is equipped with mini fridge, microwave and Keurig coffeemaker. The other unit is a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with full kitchen and a private deck with views of the Craggy Mountains and other peaks of the Blue Ridge. Beds can be set up as a king or two twins in one bedroom. The second bedroom has a queen bed. An air bed is available for a fifth person.
We are a small, family-run Bed & Breakfast-style Rustic Mountain Retreat, designed in the spirit of the Great Lodges of older times and ancient places, nestled deep in the mountains of Southern Appalachia along the North Carolina/ Tennessee border. The name Kana’ti is in honor of the first chief of the first people: The Cherokee and earlier Woodland tribes who, according to archaeological evidence, used this area for thousands of years as a hunting ground for Mammoth, Bison, Elk and Deer migrating up and down the Bald Mountain Ranges as the ice caps retreated northward. The lodge itself is constructed of mostly local materials, many of which were reclaimed from old cabins and barns around the Southern Appalachian region. Every part of the building tells a story – the passing age of tobacco in barn poles and hand-rived stakes, restored windows and doors from a local school, and flooring and siding harvested from our own land.
