We are a small, family-run Bed & Breakfast-style Rustic Mountain Retreat, designed in the spirit of the Great Lodges of older times and ancient places, nestled deep in the mountains of Southern Appalachia along the North Carolina/ Tennessee border. The name Kana’ti is in honor of the first chief of the first people: The Cherokee and earlier Woodland tribes who, according to archaeological evidence, used this area for thousands of years as a hunting ground for Mammoth, Bison, Elk and Deer migrating up and down the Bald Mountain Ranges as the ice caps retreated northward. The lodge itself is constructed of mostly local materials, many of which were reclaimed from old cabins and barns around the Southern Appalachian region. Every part of the building tells a story – the passing age of tobacco in barn poles and hand-rived stakes, restored windows and doors from a local school, and flooring and siding harvested from our own land.
Our unique rustic farmhouse-style bed and breakfast (circa 1940s) features stunning pasture and mountain views, porch swings and rockers. All three guest rooms have private baths. Owners Mariah & Dave Nugent serve a full gourmet breakfast every morning with a daily snack and complimentary beverages. On weekends, an early evening happy hour is also served. Also on the property is the original house foundation built in 1901. A quaint cabin in the north Georgia mountains away from the bed and breakfast that can sleep six people is fully self-sufficient and comes with a picnic table, hammock and grill to complete a relaxing stay. The sunroom features an exposed rock wall, another flat screen TV, sofa, reading chairs and great views of the back yard and patio. The custom kitchen and dining room feature 20 foot vaulted ceilings with skylights, exposed beams, exposed rock wall, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a huge farm table made from recycled barn wood. There is also a laundry/mud room for your convenience. There is a large rear rock patio with seating for 10 and a large charcoal BBQ. The side covered porch has a porch swing, two gliders, mountain views and is perfect for getting some shade on a hot day. The backyard is the jewel of the property and has several Adirondack chairs, a fire pit and access to the refreshing swimming and/or fishing hole! The property is also adjacent to The Old Red Bridge, which was built in 1910.

The White Birch Inn is an elegant yet charming inn in the heart of downtown Clayton. Set in a 100-year-old brick building, the upscale inn features six uniquely decorated guestrooms and suites, each with their own ensuite bath. Our journey to the breathtaking mountains of the Carolina’s began over a decade ago, and it is a dream come true. It was time to get away from the cold and fast pace of the Mid-West and create our year round Timber Frame home. We live in RiverDance full-time and are looking forward to having you as our guest.
